Will the Wizards finish with their worst regular season finish ever?

Image Photo by Chris Coduto/Getty Images The team is 4-21 and on track for a 13 win season. The Washington Wizards lost to the Phoenix Suns yesterday in a game that they quite honestly should have won. On the one hand, this helps Washington’s draft position where they can pick up a highly touted prospect. But on the other, we have to ask if the Wizards are on track for history for their worst regular season finish ever. Check out this tweet below that got me thinking. 4-21. Tracking for worst team in 25 years... pic.twitter.com/fbHPy3g6D3— KBurke (@Kevn_Burke) December 18, 2023 In short, the Wizards are 4-21 right now and on track for a 13 win regular season assuming they continue winning at their current pace. Is that realistic? The best way we can hypothesize things is that we can look at the history books. The worst regular season in franchise history was in 1961-62 when the Chicago Packers won 22.5 percent of their games en-route to an 18-62 regular season. In the 82 game regular season era, the Wizards had two 19-63 seasons in 2000-01 and 2008-09. Washington also won just 18 games in the 1998-99 season, but there were 50 regular season games that season. Teams have had really bad starts before but have gelled enough to improve in the second half of the season, though they generally remain lottery bound. Do you see the Wizards improve enough to avoid a sub 20-win regular season? Let us know in the comments below.
