(Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images) When he joined the Washington Wizards this summer, Jordan Poole promised that great things were ahead for both himself and his new team. So far, things haven’t panned out very well for the Wizards. The team holds a troubling 2-8 record after ten games and is currently 14th in the Eastern Conference. This has a lot of people talking about the future of the team and Poole. Marc Stein addressed this in his latest newsletter, via Gabe Fernandez on Twitter. Stein reported that several league observers believe that the Wizards don’t truly see Poole as the future of the team but as a possible trade asset instead. It wouldn’t be the first time that an NBA front office brought in a player so that they could improve their stat line, garner interest from other teams, and then move on for a hefty fee of money and other players. It’s a slow strategy that requires patience. It also requires that the player in question really does improve. So far this season, Poole is posting 16.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. That is a slight step down from last season with the Golden State Warriors when he averaged 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Additionally, his three-point shooting has really taken a fall and is at 30.3%, which is nearly a career low. While Poole has shown that he has rebounded from his tough postseason last year, he still isn’t the breakout star he wished to be in Washington. Right now, the dismal track record of the team is really overshadowing his work and everyone else’s.
