The team continues to win, and their NBA 2K24 ratings reflect that. Thursday afternoon, NBA 2K24 released its latest player ratings update. Members of the Minnesota Timberwolves saw downticks to their overall ratings in the last update, as Naz Reid went minus two and Jaden McDaniels went minus one. Minnesota was 15-4 when that rating update was released on December 2, sitting two games over the Denver Nuggets for the best record in the Western Conference. About one month later, the Timberwolves still sit atop the West with their 21-6 record and are in a neck-and-neck race with the Boston Celtics for the best record in all of the NBA. As a result, five members of the Wolves saw adjustments to their overalls in the most recent update, most of which were positive. 
NBA 2K24 Troy Brown Jr. in NBA 2K24 Troy Brown Jr.: 75 OVR (+2 from last rating) In NBA 2K’s last rating update, Troy Brown Jr. received no altercation to his overall, which was odd. Brown Jr. was injected into the rotation in late November, shortly after the injury to Jaden McDaniels. During the eight games without McDaniels, the Timberwolves desperately needed someone to step up off the bench and provide reliable shooting and defense, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker moving into the starting lineup. TBJ was the one to answer that call. In the eight games since the last ratings update, Brown Jr. averaged seven points, two rebounds, and two assists on 50% from the floor and 40% from deep in 17 minutes. His minutes have dropped over the last three games (4:54 vs. Miami Heat, 9:44 vs Philidelphia 76ers, and 5:56 vs. Los Angeles Lakers). However, TBJ has developed into the plug-and-play guy I expected him to be for the Wolves. It doesn’t matter how much playing time he gets or what his role looks like; the 6-foot-6 forward will produce no matter what, and it is nice to see NBA 2K rewarding him with an increased rating. 
NBA 2K24 Karl-Anthony Towns in NBA 2K24 Karl-Anthony Towns: 87 OVR (+1 from last rating) After starting the season off slowly, Karl-Anthony Towns has blossomed onto a level we have never seen from him this consistently before. So far, during December, Towns has been on a tear, averaging 22.3 points and 10.6 rebounds on 55% from the floor, 43% from deep, and 87% from the free throw line in 33 minutes. Those stats and the efficiency that follows have been something that Timberwolves fans have seen before. However, KAT has taken his game to the next level this season. Most likely, the most significant improvement to Towns’ game in December is the ability to stay on the court. Over the last eight games, the former Kentucky star has picked up more than four fouls just once. He’s been playing incredibly smart, taking what the defense gives him and not forcing anything. As a result, his 3-point totals are down. However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. With Rudy Gobert playing beside him at the 5, Towns is subject to some less-than-stellar defense on a nightly basis. Opposing teams’ power forwards just can’t contain Towns in the post, and he has been consistently exploiting that. 87 overall still feels low for him, but considering he was at 85 to start the season, getting some level of attention and love from NBA 2K is great to see. 
NBA 2k24 Rudy Gobert in NBA 2K24 Rudy Gobert: 85 OVR (+1 from last rating) During December, Rudy Gobert’s numbers have been down, as he is averaging 10.6 points and 13.1 rebounds on 62% from the floor and 61% from the free throw line in 30 minutes. However, the Tower of Power’s defensive impact has not wavered at all. He has had some pretty challenging defensive matchups of late and has done a solid job holding his own against some of the NBA’s best big men. Thursday night against the Los Angeles Lakers, Gobert had the tall task of matching up with Anthony Davis. The Timberwolves were coming off a game the night prior in Philadelphia where Joel Embiid stuck it to Minnesota with 51 points on 17-of-25 from the floor and 17-of-18 from the foul stripe. Embiid was able to take Gobert out of the game early with impeding foul trouble. The Wolves had no answer for The Process, and they were looking not to have a repeat performance against AD and the Lakers a little over 24 hours later. The Brow finished with 31 points on 11-of-20 from the floor. Most of the damage he did was from outside the paint, as six of his 11 made baskets that night came from the mid-range. Gobert was draped over Davis for most of his shot attempts, but AD is an incredible player, and sometimes you just need to tip your cap. The Lakers as a team missed 17 shots in the paint and connected on 18 of them throughout the game. The second half is where the Stifle Tower imposed his will further, as Davis scored just two paint points on 1-of-5 from the floor after halftime. Another positive from the night to take away: Rudy committed three personal fouls, two of which came in the second half. It is refreshing to see NBA 2K didn’t drop Gobert’s overall just because his numbers are down. However, 85 seems way too low for a player featured on ESPN’s latest MVP straw poll and anchoring the NBA’s best defensive team. 
NBA 2K24 Mike Conley in NBA 2K24 Mike Conley: 80 OVR (+1 from last rating) This is Mike Conley’s first time seeing his rating change this season. At the end of the 2022-23 campaign, his overall was sitting at 80, which seemed appropriate considering how impactful he was as the Wolves scrapped into the NBA Playoffs for the second straight season by way of the Play-In Tournament. However, Conley started the 2023-24 season with a 79 overall, which was odd yet expected as the 36-year-old floor general entered his 16th year in the NBA. It’s normal for Father Time to catch up on players in their late thirties, but it appears Conley is in the same boat as LeBron James by proving age is just a number. Since the last ratings update, MC is averaging 14 points and six assists on a mind-boggling 53% from the floor, 52% from three, and 94% from the free throw line. Thursday night against the Lakers was the latest installment in what has been an incredibly reliable start to the season for Conley, as he registered 16 points, eight assists, and two steals on 6-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-6 from deep in 30 minutes. A cliché that would fit a player like Bite Bite is that he is turning back the clock. However, what he is doing isn’t anything new. The veteran guard has been playing like this his whole career. Regardless of his team, role, or age — Conley will provide your team with consistent scoring and a brilliant mind on both ends. He has been one of Minnesota’s most important players this season, which isn’t debatable. Seeing MC back in the 80 overall club is justified, to say the least. 
NBA 2K24 Anthony Edwards in NBA 2K24 Anthony Edwards: 89 OVR (-1 from last rating) The decision to drop Anthony Edwards out of the 90 overall club is expected. Earlier in the month, Edwards struggled to find his footing while dealing with a right hip injury. However, over the last four games, Ant averaged 31 points, six rebounds, and five assists on 52% from the floor, 42% from three-point range, and 91% from the free throw line. This is pretty typical for the folks over at NBA 2K. When a player is injured for any duration of time, they tend to see a dip in their overall rating, regardless of how they played before or after returning from injury. Looking at Minnesota’s last handful of games, it seems like the only good reason Edwards’ rating dropped was solely based on his performance against the Dallas Mavericks, where he shot 3-of-19 from the floor and registered just nine points. Ant not being at least 90 overall seems like a dishonor to how he’s played this season and the giant steps he’s taken on both ends of the court. However, when looking at the players who have higher ratings than him, it’s hard to make the case that he has been playing better than any of them.
