REPORT: Pistons Sign Kevin Knox to 1-Year Deal

Image(Image via Detroit Free Press) The Detroit Pistons have reportedly signed forward Kevin Knox to a one-year deal according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Free agent forward Kevin Knox has agreed to a one-year deal with the Detroit Pistons, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Knox returns to Detroit, where he played 42 games a season ago.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 8, 2023 Detroit signed Knox last season to a two-year deal, appearing in 42 games while averaging 5.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game. The Pistons traded Knox to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the James Wiseman acquisition through the Golden State Warriors. The 24-year-old Knox faired slightly better in Portland, averaging 8.6 points in 17.1 minutes per game. He was released by the Trail Blazers on October 21 ahead of the regular season. By signing Knox, the Pistons have filled their final roster spot. Injuries to Isaiah Livers and Bojan Bogdanovic, two rotation players and quality shooters, have depleted Detroit’s wing room. Given their injuries and expected continued absence on the court, the Pistons may have wanted to sign additional insurance. Stanley Umude, a young wing who is currently shooting 57.1% from deep, has surprisingly kept the Pistons in some games. Hopefully the signing of Knox does not impede Umude’s playing time. Knox, a former top-ten pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, has bounced around the league for several teams, unable to stick anywhere outside of the team that drafted him – the New York Knicks. Hopefully this is just a depth signing for the Pistons, who should be continuing to prioritize playing the young talent on their roster instead.
