Report: Nets 'shying away' from Hawks' trade price for Dejounte Murray

The 2023-24 NBA trade deadline is approaching quickly and the Brooklyn Nets are about to embark one of the harder schedules in the league over the next three weeks. One of the players that the Nets have been linked to for a possible trade may be too much of a cost for Brooklyn’s taste. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that the Nets are “shying away” from Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray because of the Hawks’ asking price to trade him. Reportedly, Atlanta wants at least two first-round picks for any trade involving Murray and at this moment, it seems that Brooklyn does not want to pay that price. After various reports made it seem that the Nets were one of the frontrunners in the Murray sweepstakes, it looks like some cold water has been thrown on that trade fire. To be clear, this doesn’t preclude Brooklyn from trading for Murray, but it does make a trade for him less likely than it was just a few days ago. Brooklyn has some significant draft capital as a result of the trades of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant last season, but it appears that the Nets are trying to hold on to those picks for as long as they can. However, Murray would be a good player for the Nets to build around due to his ability to score the basketball and create shots for others so it will be interesting to see if a trade is done between now and the deadline.
