Mark Jones says Keegan Murray could have a ceiling similar to Paul George

ImageSacramento Kings play-by-play analyst Mark Jones joined The Drive Guys Monday morning to discuss the recent exceptional, historic performance from Keegan Murray, what it means for his ceiling, and why De’Aaron Fox deserves recognition among the league’s elite players. The trio started their conversation by reviewing Saturday’s 47-point performance from Keegan Murray on 12/15 from beyond the arc. Jones, who has worked for ESPN for years, has had the chance to witness plenty of outstanding performances, from Stephen Curry scoring 50-plus in Madison Square Garden and multiple James Harden 50-point triple-doubles to dominant postseason games from LeBron James. Yet, he said that what Keegan Murray accomplished “was right up there with the efficiency that he did. It was a regular season game, but still. That was very, very amazing for a guy who, by the way, on the other end, had a pretty heavy defensive assignment as well. That’s about as complete a game you’ll see a guy play on the offensive and defensive end.”

Jones acknowledged that, despite being viewed as an elite three-point shooter coming out of Iowa, that the second-year forward has easily surpassed leaguewide expectations as a shooter. “There’s no question about it,” he said. Other topics discussed included:
  • Why assistant coach Dutch Gaitley deserves some credit for the development of Keegan Murray
  • Messages Jones got from people around the league amid Murray’s offensive explosion
  • Why De’Aaron Fox deserves to be mentioned in the MVP conversation
  • Jones advocating for the Sacramento Kings on his national TV broadcasts
  • And plenty more
